Central Fire Station is located at 600 Wood St in downtown Houma. It opened in 1930 under Fire Chief A.J. Bethancourt
and is the oldest continuously operating station in the city. Originaly operating as a fire station and police station,
central housed an engine company, the Fire Chief, dispatch and the police department. Since the police department moved
out in the 1970's, Central Station now houses the Training, Inspection/Prevention and Maintenance divisions, as well as
the Fire Chief. The tower that stands in front of Central, originaly had a water tank on top that feed the first pressurized
water system in the city.
